    East Snowmass Pass ≈12,680 ft The long opening climb reaches the highest of the three passes before the boulder-field descent toward Willow Lake.

    Willow Pass ≈12,600 ft The route climbs out of the Willow Lake area, crosses the second crest, and reaches the Maroon-Snowmass junction.

  3. Third pass · mile 9.57

    Buckskin Pass ≈12,500 ft The final high crest comes before the long descent toward Snowmass Lake and Snowmass Creek.

This catalog pattern crosses East Snowmass Pass, Willow Pass, and Buckskin Pass before descending Snowmass Creek. The route order and overnight order are fixed; exact camp placement, pass timing, and daily mileage are not.

From East Snowmass Creek Trailhead, Trail #1977 climbs through forest and meadow to East Snowmass Pass. The west-side descent uses switchbacks through a steep boulder field before rolling tundra reaches the Willow Lake area. Night 1 is in the self-registration landscape, outside the advance-reservation permit zones.

From Willow Lake, reverse the Willow Lake Trail narrative over Willow Pass to the Maroon-Snowmass junction, then climb toward Buckskin Pass. Descend toward Snowmass Lake for the one watched permit night, follow Trail #1975 down Snowmass Creek to the named exit, and complete the local circuit by the road connection between the neighboring portals.

Willow Lake is a self-registration overnight with no reservable inventory. Snowmass Lake is the one advance permit zone and the only night Wild Chime can monitor.

How the mixed overnight model actually works

This itinerary combines one traveler-completed trailhead registration with one Recreation.gov zone reservation. The two requirements must remain separate in both the trip plan and the watch.

Two separate requirements
Night 1 uses trailhead self-registration. Night 2 uses an advance Snowmass Lake Zone reservation; one action does not complete the other.
Willow has no inventory
There is no Willow Lake quota opening, provider inventory, or numbered campsite for Wild Chime to watch or hold.
Snowmass is the watch
Only the Snowmass Lake Zone permit option that fits the saved party can satisfy the monitored leg for the saved trip date.
Parties one through ten
Wild Chime selects Snowmass Lake’s small-group permit option for one through four people and its large-group permit option for five through ten.
A zone, not a site number
The Snowmass reservation selects a dispersed zone. Camp in an already-established site inside its boundary under current guidance.
Print before departure
Printing opens fourteen days before the Snowmass reservation. The permit holder or named alternate must carry the printed permit and photo ID.
Returns are not clockwork
Recreation.gov says canceled Snowmass permits become available within twenty-four hours; it does not promise an immediate or predictable return minute.

Does one reservation cover both nights?

Does Wild Chime complete the Willow registration?
